Illiteracy is a problem that comes up every once in a while when talking about global issues, so I figured I would talk about it here today. Illeteracy, if you do not know is the inability to read or write. Here in Canada, we seem to be pretty well off (99% of people are literate) but in other countries such as Ethiopia (35.9%) and Niger (28.7%) it is a serious problem. We need to take this issue more seriously and start eduacting people in these countries about reading and writing. There are not that many groups working to fight illiteracy so I believe that there should be more people aware so we can form a group devoted to helping people become literate in countries such as Niger and Ethiopia.
